Reliable and accessible data is the key to Operational Excellence. It is also fundamental to the ongoing success of any business. We all need it to do our day jobs and to see where to focus our own problem solving time. Rachael has focussed us our operational excellence journey – we have started further back down the road than anyone realised – but we are now heading in the right direction.
Right now our business needs to focus on building solid foundations. In order to build that solid foundation our Information Technology systems are changing: A lot. IT systems are easy to build and difficult to change; more so for us as we have an aged and undocumented IT system.
It is easy to understand that Unexpected problems will become visible; often delays and rework will occur that will also affect the delivery of tools or reports or changes already promised to the business. We can’t do everything, we do have limited resources and we haven’t in the past ever measured or controlled the requests on IT for new things or changes to old things.
We are now just beginning to introduce the discipline of project management. We are beginning to define and plan our needs. We will today begin to prioritise the queue of projects. We are making the work visible and we are beginning to measure our performance.
Our business is now focused on building a foundation of reliable and accessible data and is beginning to measure and control project performance. We are now moving towards Operational Excellence.
At this point in time Rachael will be finishing her time with Agility in April after a handover to Chris McCormick, however that date may change, dependant on IT progress.
